Registers and Analysis

Text A
KATIE: I meted Steven and we walked for about for a bit with my friend Natalie.
BETH: Yeah so Natalie met him what!! How come I haven’t?
KATIE: Then we went back to my house.
BETH: And…..
KATIE: When he had to go home, I walked him to the bus stop and kissed him, but I didn’t feel anything at all.
Beth: what how’s that even possible!!!!
KATIE: That’s the thing I felt really bad as he is such a nice person,
BETH: So did you tell him?
KATIE: Yes, I told him last night now I felt and he completely understood,
BETH: Well that’s something are you both still coming to the cinema on Sunday?
KATIE: We are still going to the cinema on Saturday together but as mates!
BETH: So how were your results?
KATIE: I sat my French general exam yesterday and got my results back today.
BETH: And?
KATIE: I got 31 out of 32 so I’m quite happy.
BETH: How was Claire’s result?
KATIE: She was really upset in English and I wish I could help her but the only person who could really do that is Tony.
Analysis:
The above text before was a colloquial text that contained lots of slang, non-standard English and homophonic representation. Now it has been changed into an intimate register between two friends on the internet. The way I have changed this into an intimate text is by making the conversation isolated to just two people and about personal things that close friends talk about like guys and weekend plans I had to change some of the words form numbers into letters (e.g. 2, into two) as then it would be in standard English, by doing this I haven’t lost the purpose just changed the dialects slightly.

Text C:
DARLENE: Hello?
TROY: Darling it’s me, you’re beloved
DARLENE: Oh it’s you Roy,
TROY: No it’s me darling Troy your most admired husband
DARLENE: Oh dear god, I do apologise my dear the children are making a terrible amount of noise.
TROY: You don’t say my dear,
DARLENE: (Away from the phone) Krystal does keep your noise down matriarch on the phone!
TROY: How was the children’s day?
DARLENE: They haven’t been very well and were off school for the day but the nurse had to go home so very tired my dear.
TROY: I do wish she had stayed to help, as it’s been busy here today too so will not be able to help you my darling
DARLENE: So what time will you be back dear so I can get the cook to get the food ready for you arrival!
TROY: I’m going to as Sir Richard to take over so I can come back and let you rest for a while.
Analysis:
The above text was originally and intimate register between a couple, this was shown by the use of language such as ‘our’ and nick names such as’ gooney-bird’ and ‘baby’. Now the text as a frozen register, I have done this by changing the language from modern to old English by using words like ‘matriarch’ and ‘nurse’ in place of mother and child-minder. This still has the same purpose just using a different style of writing.
